«I’ve loved monsters since childhood, as well as fantastic and strange worlds. I read a lot of comics and books, and my favorites contain bizarre creatures. Those in the novels of Jules Verne, Edgar Allan Poe, the science fiction of Azimov or Van Vogt have populated my daily life. Of course, the first comic strips I published in France always included unusual creatures, mutants or extraterrestrials.»

About Stan Manoukian

For those of you who don’t know him (yet), Stan Manoukian is a French artist renowned the world over for his works depicting, for the most part, monsters. His drawings, almost exclusively in black and white, and his layout, akin to the Lowblow movement, make him an illustrator with an inimitable style.

His obsession with monsters began in 2007, when he set himself the challenge of drawing a monster a day. This three-year challenge led to the publication of a collection, Diary of inhuman species, in 2009 by Ankama. Many of his works have already been published by Glénat, Ankama and Delcourt, and he is best known for his work with Vince (Vortex, Les Chronokids…). They won the Fauve jeunesse at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2011!

Stan Manoukian’s work has been the subject of numerous international exhibitions, notably in Japan, the United States and throughout France and Europe.

Editor’s word

Stan Manoukian has always been fascinated by monsters. This fascination has given rise to six books featuring his drawings of unusual creatures, published over the course of his career. Initially self-published, they officially joined the Caurette catalog in May 2022, after being republished, this time with a hardback cover.

These six books offer different approaches to discovering Stan Manoukian’s world of little monsters. While some tell a story, others are inventories of the various species. From small creatures inspired by nature to caricatures of classic horror films, Stan Manoukian’s monsters are sure to surprise.
